SVLEC IO-Link M12 Slave Module Selection Guide: Plastic vs. Metal Housings — Version Comparison

2026 03/19

1
SVLEC has launched a diverse range of IO-Link M12 slave modules designed to simplify field wiring, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance system reliability. Leveraging IO-Link technology, our modules transmit data, power, and diagnostics over a single standard cable, effectively eliminating the complexities of traditional sensor wiring and troubleshooting.
Based on different industrial environments and application requirements, we offer three primary types of slave modules:

1. Digital I/O Slaves (Plastic Housing) — The Cost-Effective Choice

3

16 I/O Points: Supports flexible input/output configurations.

8 x M12 Interfaces: Ensures clean and organized field wiring.

IP67 Protection: Fully dustproof and waterproof, ideal for general workshop environments.

High Power Output: Select models (DE/DY Series) feature auxiliary ports with up to 2A power supply for actuators.

Expandable Design: Supports modular expansion for future I/O point additions.

2. Digital I/O Slaves (Metal Housing) — High-Reliability Industrial Grade

4

Superior EMI Shielding: The zinc alloy housing provides excellent electromagnetic shielding, resisting interference from VFDs and welders to ensure stable signal transmission and zero false PLC alarms.

Ruggedized Construction: High mechanical strength with resistance to oil, coolants, scratches, and impacts. Built for long-term stability in harsh industrial conditions.

High Current Capacity: Features a 16A total module current rating. High-output models (e.g., DKM16DO) offer 2A auxiliary port outputs to drive high-power solenoid valves directly, eliminating the need for external relays.

Recommendation: Best for demanding environments with strong EMI (VFDs, welders, large motors), oil contamination, metal shavings, or high temperatures. While the initial cost is higher, the metal series significantly extends system lifespan and ensures maintenance-free, "Plug-and-Play" stability.

3.  Analog I/O Slaves — High-Precision Process Control

5

Analog Input (AIH/ATH Series): Utilizes Class A interfaces. A single standard cable handles both power and communication, making wiring extremely simple.

Analog Output (AO Series): Utilizes Class B interfaces, requiring an additional 5-core power cable. Please plan wiring and cable specifications in advance during the design phase.
